Surabaya- In response to recent interfaith issues in Indonesia, and upon the occasion of the return of 6 SUSI (Study of the United States Institute) scholars from Java, Sulawesi, and the Moluccas, the consulate is hosting an interfaith lunch gathering for students in and around Surabaya. SUSI scholars recently returned from their course on religious pluralism and interfaith dialogue in the U.S. will present on their experiences and lead a discussion with students from various religious backgrounds, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, and Christian.

The U.S. Embassy along with its consulates in Medan and Surabaya have spoken in support of tolerance between people and against the use of violence.

Indonesia has a strong tradition of religious tolerance. The consulate is happy to host dialogue between youth on issues of religious tolerance and interfaith mutual understanding.
