Step-by-Step Instructions: How to Apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa

Step 1:  Prepare an appropriate visa photo.  Click here digital for photo requirements.  A low resolution (.jpeg, maximum size 240 KB) digital visa photo must be uploaded when you complete the online DS-160 visa application online.  However, if the system says your photo is unacceptable, try reducing the resolution.  If the photo is still unacceptable, just click "please proceed without a photo."  You must bring a visa photo to your visa interview.  See the print photo format found in the Nonimmigrant Photograph Requirements

Step 2:  Fill in the online DS-160 visa application form and upload your digital photo; click here to complete the application form and print the DS-160 confirmation sheet.  You will need your bar code number from the confirmation sheet when you schedule your visa interview.  To view Frequently Asked Questions about the DS_160 form, please click here.  **

Step 3:  Pay the visa application (MRV) fee at a designated bank.  For a list of designated banks that accept the visa application fee / MRV fee click here.  Note:  It is REQUIRED that you pay the visa application fee before scheduling your visa interview (step 4).   

Step 4:  Schedule your visa interview at the location of your choosing (Surabaya).  You will need your passport number and the number from the payment receipt to schedule a visa interview. Schedule a visa interview by clicking here

Step 5:  Gather any required and/or supporting documents (original documents) that will be needed for your visa interview, such as old passports demonstrating previous travel, bank books, proof of employment, children's birth certificates, family registry, etc.

Step 6:  Appear for the visa interview on the scheduled interview date.  Make sure you bring your passport, visa photo, the printed DS-160 confirmation sheet with bar code, and your MRV fee receipt to your interview.  We cannot interview you without these items.

** Note:  If the online visa application form has not been completed fully and accurately, the applicant will be requested to return with a new completed application.
