ADM John Bird Speaks to the reporters onboard the ship

The Navy ship USS LASSEN visited Bali January 31. The visit was particularly significant since it marked the first time a U.S. Navy vessel has visited Bali since the terrorist bombings of 2002.

Seventeen journalists invited by the Consulate had the opportunity to interview Vice Admiral John Bird, Commander of the U.S. 7th Fleet, aboard the LASSEN and then enjoyed a tour of the ship. VADM Bird highlighted the excellent cooperation between the U.S. and Indonesian Navies and praised Indonesia for its role in maintaining security in the critical Malacca Straits.
