The American Citizen Services Unit serves as a liaison abroad for various federal benefits-paying agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration. In past years, the Consulate received social security and other checks issued by the U.S. Treasury for American Citizens resident in Indonesia. However, because of the technological advancements within the banking system in Indonesia, Americans are now advised to establish bank accounts and arrange electronic deposit of their checks.
